Sang-Duck Seo, Ph.D., is a Professor of Graphic Design and Media in the Department of Art at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). As a multidisciplinary educator and researcher, he integrates his extensive industry experience with academic rigor to explore the boundaries of visual communication and interaction. He earned his BFA in Industrial Design from Daegu University in Korea, followed by an MFA in Graphic Design and a Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) from Iowa State University. Before his tenure at UNLV, Dr. Seo held prominent design roles at global corporations such as SAMSUNG and GM. Notably, during his time at the Korea Mint, he participated in several national projects, most famously designing the 2007 Korean Banknote. Dr. Seo’s creative work has been exhibited in over 25 countries, and his research has been widely published in leading design journals and presented at major international conferences. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious honors, including the Alex G. and Faye Spanos Distinguished Teaching Award, the UNLV Foundational Distinguished Teaching Award, and the Lincy Professorship. His excellence in design has also been recognized with the Adobe Achievement Award and the Korea International Design Awards. Currently, Dr. Seo focuses his research on visual cognition, perception, and user experience (UX) within design communication. He applies these research-driven insights to his teaching, dedicated to preparing students to excel and lead in the ever-evolving, competitive field of design.
